Injury recovery from an accident starts with Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic Care as the First Step in Conservative Care
It is critical that chiropractic care is sought immediately after an automobile accident since allowing the effects of whiplash to go untreated can induce long-term pain. The seriousness of the physical effects of an accident is not always known or felt immediately following. It can take days, weeks or even months for major symptoms to show up, which is why chiropractic care is essential to maintaining the health of a spine that has been through a trauma. Chiropractic care immediately following proper diagnosis of your accident injuries is a non-invasive, low risk way to begin treatment.
Early care and treatment means full healing and recovery is quickly realized. Even a car crash that is seemingly minor with limited damage to the car itself can cause serious injury to the driver and passengers. Chiropractic treatments are the right step toward restoring the body. They relieve pain, make necessary adjustments to spine alignment and may include massage or foam roller techniques. Beyond treatment, advice for optimal nutrition, as well as exercises to continue healing on your own after appointments, are just a few examples of the way Broward Accident Injury Center chiropractors care for the whole individual after an accident.
What is "Chiropractic Care"?
Misalignment of your joints and especially your spine can cause poor health. No part of your body escapes the dominance of your nervous system. Improper function of the spine due to slight misalignments-called subluxations-can cause poor health or function, even in areas far removed from the spine and spinal cord itself. Misalignments can also reduce the ability of your body to adapt to its ever-changing environment. Even the slightest malfunction of your spine may alter the regular transmission of nerve impulses, preventing that portion of your body from responding optimally. (Palmer College) Chiropractic is a natural form of health care that uses spinal adjustments to correct these misalignments and restore proper function to the nervous system, helping your body to heal naturally. Chiropractic doesn't use drugs or surgery. Rather, a chiropractic spinal adjustment-the application of a precise force to a specific part of the spinal segment-corrects the misalignment, permitting normal nerve transmission and assisting your body to recuperate on its own. How long does Chiropractic Treatment last?
Duration of treatment for whiplash injuries is a heavily researched area. Numerous studies have been done to determine how long treatment may last for an injury. The consensus among researchers is that any injury that resolves within 3 months is a “mild” injury. Anything longer than 3 months is a “moderate to severe” injury that probably involves extensive damage, particularly to the discs or joint surfaces of the spine. According to the current medical literature, “uncomplicated, mild “whiplash” type injuries require 2 to 3 months to heal, often without any residual impairments or pain.” The same authors note that 25% of whiplash victims suffer chronic pain. These patients are said not to spontaneously heal, but may improve over a period of 2 years. Another study in 1994 indicated that the average treatment period for whiplash type injuries is 7 months, 1 week; and that tough cases may require up to 108 weeks of treatment. Treatment of 2-3 months in more mild collisions is reasonable, while several months to 2 years of care can be required for more extensive injuries.
If you or someone you love has been in a car accident that resulted in injuries that require chiropractic care, it is important to seek medical care promptly to prevent long term damage and ongoing pain.
